What a hygienic pedicure is

A hygienic pedicure is a full pedicure and dry foot care in one visit: no footbath, no soaking. Nails, cuticles, hard skin and cracked heels are shaped and smoothed with an electric file and hand tools. What matters is how your feet feel, not the polish, which is optional and goes last. It suits men and women.

Every reusable instrument is sterilized and opened at your chair. The rest is on the hygiene page.

What is included, step by step

Every visit runs in the same order, and most pedicures take about 90 minutes. Here is what each part is for.

  1. You talk, we look. You tell us what bothers you and we check what we are working with.
  2. Nails shortened and shaped. Length, edges, and the corners that catch on socks.
  3. Cuticles and nail folds, dry. An e-file with sterilized bits, opened from a sealed pouch at your chair.
  4. Hard skin and heels. In the KART pedicure, a fruit-acid peel softens hard skin first. Thinned and smoothed, never cut.
  5. Polish, if you want it. Regular or gel. Skip it and you leave with a buffed natural finish.
  6. Home care and a date. What to do between visits, and when to come back.

Dry pedicure or wet pedicure?

Both end with tidy feet. How they get there matters most if your skin is thin, your nails are thick, or you have diabetes.

How a dry hygienic pedicure differs from a standard wet pedicure
What changesDry (what we do)Wet (the standard pedicure)
HygieneNothing shared holds water. Files and buffers are used once.A footbath or a liner, plus jets and pipes on some chairs.
Skin conditionSkin stays firm, so the e-file reads the callus edge properly.Soaking swells the skin, which hides where hard skin ends.
Nail precisionDry nails cut and shape true, including the corners.Softened nails tear and fray at the edge.
TimeLonger in the chair. More of it spent on the problem.Faster, with more of the time spent soaking.

Our sterilization protocol

Standards you can see

Every client gets a sterilized set, opened at the chair. Every reusable instrument is sterilized in a dry-heat sterilizer. It comes to your chair in a sealed, dated pouch, and we open it in front of you.

Between clients we disinfect the chair, the station and the e-file handpiece. Fresh gloves and a fresh liner for every visit.

How a hygienic pedicure works

  1. We look at your nails and feet and ask what bothers you.
  2. We suggest options and work dry or with KART products.
  3. We smooth hard skin and heels, then shape and finish.
  4. We explain home care in plain words and set a date to come back.

The KART pedicure

The pedicure our menu leads with. KART is a line of professional foot-care products with active fruit acids.

A KART peel softens dead skin and light calluses on the feet and heels, so they can be smoothed away. Smart and hardware pedicures are other names for dry e-file work. Smart pedicure is not on our menu.

How the KART pedicure works

What it costs

A hygienic pedicure starts from $100 · about 90 min. That is the hygienic pedicure: nails, cuticles, feet and heels in one sitting.

The KART pedicure, with its fruit-acid peel, starts from $150 · about 90 min. A consultation can be booked on its own, and its fee counts toward any service you book the same day.

Three things move the number. Who you book: a pedicure with Tetiana, our advanced pedicurist, costs more. How much extra work your nails and heels need, priced per nail or per callus and confirmed before starting. And whether you add polish or gel.

It is not billable to insurance, Medicare, HSA or FSA. Nothing here is a medical service, and we would rather say that up front than let you find out at checkout.

  • Heat-sterilized

Every reusable instrument goes through a full dry-heat sterilizer cycle and arrives in a sealed, dated pouch.

  • No whirlpool

A dry pedicure. No footbath, no standing water, nothing shared between clients.

  • Single-use files

Files and buffers are used once, then thrown away. Fresh gloves and liners every visit.

Aftercare and how often

Go home, keep it simple. Cream on the heels and the ball of the foot most nights, not between the toes. Cotton socks. Shoes with room at the front. If you have gel on, come back to have it taken off rather than picking at it.

Most people come back [every 4 to 8 weeks]. Fast-growing nails, a job you stand up in, and open-back sandals all summer put you at the short end. If you are between visits and something changes, call us rather than waiting for the appointment.

Questions people ask

Why is it called a hygienic pedicure?

Because hygiene is the point: sterilized instruments, a dry method with no footbath, and work aimed at the skin and nails rather than the polish. Hygienic is not a license or a legal category, so ask any salon what happens to its instruments between clients.

How the KART pedicure works
What actually happens during a hygienic pedicure?

You sit down, you say what bothers you, and we look. Nothing gets soaked. Nails are shortened and shaped, the corners cleared, hard skin thinned with an e-file, heels smoothed. Polish goes on at the end if you want it. You leave knowing what to do at home.

How we sterilize
Is a hygienic pedicure worth it?

It depends on what your feet are doing. If your nails are thick or your heels split, this is the service built for that. A standard pedicure is not. If your feet are comfortable and you want color, a standard pedicure is cheaper and does the job.

Calluses
Do I tip?

Tips are welcome and nobody expects one. This is skilled work, priced that way, not priced low with the gap made up at the counter. If you want to leave something, cash or the card reader both work. If you would rather not, say nothing and nothing happens.

See all prices
Who is allowed to perform a hygienic pedicure?

In Florida this work is done by licensed nail specialists. Anything that breaks skin, needs a prescription, or calls for a medical opinion belongs to a podiatrist. We stay on the cosmetic side of that line, and we say when something sits on the other side.

About the studio
What should I ask before I book a pedicure like this?

Three things. Ask what happens to the instruments between clients. Ask whether they use a footbath. Ask what they do when they see something they should not be working on. The answers tell you more than the name on the menu does.

Thick and discolored nails
How often should I come back?

That depends on how fast your nails grow and how hard your feet work. We give you a date at the end of the visit and tell you what it is based on. Move it in or out once you have seen how your feet hold up between two visits.
