What a Russian manicure is

It is a dry manicure. No bowl of water, no soaking. We use a small electric file, an e‑file, with a fine bit. It lifts dead skin off the nail plate and cleans the line where the nail meets the finger. We shape the nail dry, so the edge you agree on is the edge you leave with.

Dry work is why it holds. Color goes on close to the cuticle line, so there is no bare gap at the base to grow out. A manicure like this ends by growing out, not by chipping. It is the same dry method we use on feet in the hygienic pedicure, on a much smaller scale.

You can finish it with hard gel: a thin, strong layer under the color, for short, medium or long nails. For length, Aprés Gel-X extensions go on over your own nails.

How long does a Russian manicure last?

It ends when your nail grows, not when the color chips. We work the plate dry, so color sits right up to the cuticle line with no bare gap at the base. That gap at the base is what makes a manicure look old. Ask us what to expect for your nails.

Does a Russian manicure damage the nail?

Not when the work stays on the surface. The risk in this technique is a technician going past dead tissue into living skin, which is the part Florida rules out. Inside those limits the file lifts what is already loose and shapes the tip. If the skin around your nails is sore the next day, the work went past that line.

How we sterilize
How do I prepare for a Russian manicure?

Come with your nails as they are. There is no need to take off old polish or file anything down first. If you have acrylic or dip from another salon, add its removal when you book. Tell us about any nail that has been sore, split or lifting.
